In 1988, Len Davis was installed as President of the club. On the first Thursday he presided as president, he announced that his main project was to see a scholarship established. A committee was formed to exchange ideas and mold and shape the present-day scholarship foundation. The IRS gave its okay in July of 1990 and today the Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. The scholarship fund was set up so that the interest from the investments could be used for the awards.
Opportunities for helping to ensure the future of this fund include a contribution in memory of someone deceased, a special occasion or event in honor of a person or designating the scholarship foundation in your will.
Kiwanis scholarships are presented annually to graduating high school seniors. The number of scholarships depends on the interest earned from the principal of the Foundation fund and the direction of the Foundation officers.
In 1993 when Drew Silvieus was President, he set up a program called “The Grand Club”. It was an opportunity to pledge $1,000 to the Scholarship fund. He promoted it by encouraging $500 a year for two years, or $250 a year for four years, or $100 a year for ten years.
Celebrate the members who serve with a Kiwanis-branded gift. From tumblers and bracelets to scarves and socks, you’ll find just the right gift to say thanks.
